W Kuala Lumpur’s “Let’s Ngopi, Darling!” Is the Afternoon Tea You Didn’t Know You Needed

Forget what you think you know about high tea. W Kuala Lumpur just flipped the script and served it with a shot of bold local flavour. “Let’s Ngopi, Darling!” is the Living Room’s unapologetic ode to Malaysia’s love affair with coffee—and it’s anything but traditional.

This isn’t just tea and dainty pastries. It’s kopi culture with a side of drama. Think midday fuel that’s all about stories, spice, and that sacred ritual of slowing down. Here, ngopi is more than caffeine—it's connection. It’s catching up, checking in, and checking out of the 9-to-5 grind, even if just for a while.

Step into the Living Room on Level 8 and kick things off with the Signature Lokal Coffee—two cups per guest, because one is never enough. Choose your mood: Kopi Cacao (bold and bittersweet), Nyonya Brew (with a nostalgic Gula Melaka hug), or Jungle Spice Chai (comforting with a kick).

Then the real feast begins.

The savoury selection is a line-up of local icons with a twist. There’s Pulut Kuning with Rendang Daging Wagyu—luxuriously slow-cooked beef that honours tradition but turns it up a notch. The Nyonya Top Hat (V) brings that punchy Peranakan energy, while the Mini Croissant Kerabu Tuna Sandwich and Mushroom Kapitan Quiche (V) pack bold, modern flavours in bite-sized forms.

And yes, there are scones—but not as you know them. W swaps the jam and cream for Pumpkin Kaya Jam and clotted cream, served alongside Gula Melaka or Lokal Fig scones that blur the line between heritage and indulgence.

Weekdays are easygoing with à la carte selections—ideal for solo me-time or chill sessions with a friend who just gets it. But on weekends and public holidays, the vibe goes all out. Think dessert trolleys gliding through the space, an endless parade of sweet bites passed around dim sum–style, and flavours that go from retro to revolutionary: Onde Onde Layer Cake, Rose Milk Panna Cotta, Kelapa Almond Pie, Harum Manis Mango Truffle—each one a little sugar-fuelled moment of joy.

This is afternoon tea with no rules, no pretence, and definitely no blandness. It’s flavour-forward, fun, and fiercely local.
