Volvo EX30 Cross Country: The Electric SUV That Wants You Out of the City
From weekday commutes to weekend escapes, Volvo’s first fully electric Cross Country model is built for a little more adventure.
There is something very satisfying about a car that understands the assignment. Monday to Friday, it gets you through the office commute. Come Saturday, it is ready to leave the city behind.
The new Volvo EX30 Cross Country has arrived in Malaysia with exactly that sort of dual personality. Volvo Car Malaysia unveiled its first fully electric Cross Country model on 14 September 2026, introducing a compact SUV designed for everything from everyday driving to rougher, more adventurous terrain.
And yes, it is still an EV. The idea is to explore more, without adding tailpipe emissions to the journey.
From Scandinavian Roads to Malaysian Trails
The Cross Country name has been part of Volvo’s story since 1997, when the first model was developed to handle the demanding Scandinavian climate. Over the years, Volvo’s Cross Country cars have been tested across wet surfaces, rough terrain, long highways and muddy tracks, with that experience shaping the comfort and confidence expected from the range.
Now, that heritage is making its way into a fully electric SUV.

The EX30 Cross Country keeps the best features of the award-winning EX30, then adds a more rugged character for those who want to venture beyond the city. Think of it as the EX30 with a little more appetite for the outdoors.
City-Friendly, Adventure-Ready
For a compact SUV, the EX30 Cross Country is well-suited to Klang Valley streets. Radars positioned at each corner, together with multiple sensors, provide 360° environmental awareness to help drivers manoeuvre through expressways, tight alleys and everyday traffic.
It also offers a pure electric driving range of up to 437km, with zero tailpipe emissions. Its 69kWh NMC battery pack can charge from 10 to 80% in just 27 minutes using a 175kW DC rapid charger.
But the Cross Country variant is not just about getting from one place to another. It is about making the journey a little more interesting.
Its twin-motor all-wheel-drive system delivers 428hp and 543Nm of torque, taking the car from 0 to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds. Fine-tuned steering software helps optimise steering torque build-up, active return and damping, giving drivers more control through tight corners and a stronger connection to the road.
The EX30 Cross Country also sits 19mm higher than the base EX30 model. Combined with an advanced chassis design and 19-inch 5-spoke wheels, the increased ground clearance is designed to help absorb road disturbances and provide greater comfort and stability on more challenging terrain.
So, whether the plan is a quick escape to the highlands or a weekend somewhere a little less polished, the car is built to make the transition from city roads to rougher surfaces feel more natural.
More Adventure, Less Compromise
Volvo has also carried its sustainability priorities into the EX30 Cross Country. Building on the EX30’s position as Volvo’s most sustainable car to date, the Cross Country variant features a fully electric powertrain, a low carbon footprint and interior materials that reflect the brand’s focus on responsible production.
That includes upcycled denim textiles and bio-attributed Nordico upholstery.
Safety, naturally, remains a major part of the experience. The EX30 Cross Country is equipped with Volvo’s latest Safe Space Technology and advanced driver assistance systems, including braking and steering support for collision avoidance, a smart Driver Understanding system, next-generation Pilot Assist and Park Pilot Assist.
The idea is simple: the car should help create a safe space both inside and around it, so the adventure is not just about getting somewhere, but getting there and back again.
The Rugged Look, Minus the Overkill
Visually, the EX30 Cross Country takes the original EX30’s smart, minimalist Scandinavian design and gives it a more outdoorsy edge.
Matt black and vapour grey accents, low-gloss vapour grey skid plates, matte black lower bumpers and wheel arch extensions add to its rugged character. The signature Cross Country nameplate on the C-pillar, embossed CC logo at the rear and low-gloss rear shield design complete the look.
It is a premium aesthetic, but one that feels ready for a little dirt.
Inside, the cabin takes inspiration from the indigo and deep blue tones of a starry night sky, with hints of purple inspired by the last rays of a sunset. Charcoal-coloured woven textile, Nordico upholstery, denim decor panels and blue air vent panels bring the colour story together.
There is also a panoramic roof, because a little more sky above you is always a good thing when you are on the road.
Smart Storage for Real Life
The EX30 Cross Country is not just about looking the part. It also keeps the original EX30’s clever approach to storage.
The doors feature large storage compartments, while the speakers have been moved to the dashboard in a soundbar-style arrangement. A flexible central storage area between the driver and passenger is large enough for a handbag, and a removable rear box under the central armrest provides extra storage while doubling as a waste bin.
The rear luggage space offers 318 litres with all seats up, expanding to 718 litres with the second-row split seat fully folded. That should be enough room for luggage, camping gear and, naturally, the occasional flat-pack furniture purchase that seemed like a good idea at the time.
A handy ‘Will it Fit’ graphic on the power tailgate also gives intuitive examples of what can be transported. And for those with more specific plans, optional accessories include mud flaps, load carriers, a bicycle rack and roof basket.
Tech That Keeps Things Moving
The EX30 Cross Country comes with built-in Google Services, including Google Assistant, Google Maps and a range of apps via the Google Play Store, all accessible through a 12.3-inch centre screen.
For the in-car soundtrack, there is a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Because even the most scenic road trip needs a good playlist.
Available Now in Malaysia
The locally assembled Volvo EX30 Cross Country is available for viewing at all authorised dealers nationwide starting today.
Priced from RM218,888 without insurance, it is available in three exterior colours: Crystal White, Vapour Grey and Cloud Blue.
For the first 100 reservations, Volvo Car Malaysia is offering an early bird launch package worth RM12,000 in cash rebate, together with a complimentary Volvo Wallbox worth RM3,990, Load Carrier worth RM2,098 and Roof Basket worth RM3,680.
In other words, the first 100 buyers are getting a little more than just the keys.
The EX30 Ultra Gets a Price Update
Alongside the Cross Country launch, Volvo Car Malaysia has also announced updates to the MY27 EX30 Ultra.
The EX30 Ultra remains a compelling option in Volvo’s electric lineup, offering electrified mobility, versatility and award-winning design. It is now available at a more competitive starting price of RM198,888 without insurance, in four exterior colours: Crystal White, Vapour Grey, Cloud Blue and Onyx Black.
A More Convenient Way to Book a Service
The launch also marks the debut of Volvo Car Malaysia’s Digital Service Booking (DSB), which allows customers to schedule service appointments through the Volvo Car Malaysia website or the Volvo Cars App.
Designed to make ownership more personal and effortless, the platform gives customers greater flexibility and accessibility when booking aftersales services. DSB is currently available through Volvo authorised retailers in the Klang Valley, with plans to expand to authorised retailers in other regions across Malaysia.
