Under Armour NEXT COMBINE Is Making Personal Progress the Ultimate Competition

Eight weeks, seven performance tests and one goal: finding out what happens when you commit to becoming a better version of yourself.

Fitness has a funny way of turning everything into a competition. Faster times, heavier lifts, longer distances. But what if the person you really need to beat is the one who showed up eight weeks ago?

That is the thinking behind Under Armour Malaysia’s latest performance challenge, UA NEXT COMBINE, which returns for its fourth edition with a refreshed eight-week format designed to put personal progress front and centre. Tailored to Malaysia’s growing hybrid fitness community, the programme gives athletes a chance to establish their fitness baseline, train with intention and see just how far they can go.

Since its debut in 2022, UA COMBINE has brought athletes together to test their abilities across different aspects of performance. This year, the experience takes a more individual approach, encouraging participants to focus less on comparison and more on their own development. It also ties into Under Armour’s ‘COMMIT’ platform, which celebrates the growth that comes from showing up, putting in the work and staying dedicated to sport.

Seven Tests, Zero Guesswork

Before the hard work begins, participants need to know where they stand. UA NEXT COMBINE opened with Benchmark Day, putting athletes through seven standardised assessments designed to evaluate different aspects of physical performance.

Powered by VALD Performance technology, the assessments cover speed, strength, cognition, endurance, agility and vertical performance. Each participant receives a personalised scorecard, giving them a starting point to work towards throughout the eight-week programme.

The tests cover everything from a 20m Sprint Test to a Hand Grip Test and Nordic Curl for strength, alongside a Reaction Inhibition Test to assess cognitive performance. The Beep Test puts endurance to the test, while the 5-10-5 Test measures agility. Rounding out the assessment are the CMJ and Vertical Jump Test, which focus on vertical performance.

It is a more considered approach to fitness than simply chasing a personal best without knowing what needs work. With measurable results in hand, athletes can identify their strengths, recognise areas for improvement and make their training count.

The Right Gear for the Grind

Of course, putting in the work calls for gear that can keep up. During Benchmark Day, participants had the opportunity to try Under Armour's performance footwear, including the Velociti Distance, which features HOVR+™ superfoam technology engineered to reduce weight while enhancing traction for elite race environments.

For those whose workouts move between strength training, agility drills and other hybrid exercises, the UA Reign XT cross trainers were also available to test. Designed with a combination of agility and stability, they cater to the varied demands of hybrid workouts.

Because whether the goal is to shave seconds off a sprint or build better control during training, the right equipment has a role to play in getting the job done.

Eight Weeks of Showing Up

A benchmark is only the beginning. The real test comes with what athletes do next.

Throughout the eight-week programme, Under Armour will bring together Malaysia's local fitness community through five participating gym partners: Celebrity Fitness, Grit Nation Subang Jaya, Fitness First, F45 Training and MORPH by Kamileon. Participants are encouraged to attend training sessions at these gyms as they work towards improving their initial results.

The programme will wrap up with a final check-in on 28 November 2026 at JAM PJ. Athletes will repeat the same assessments and compare their new results against their original benchmarks, putting their progress into perspective.

The idea is simple: improvement looks different for everyone. For one athlete, it could mean a faster sprint. For another, it might be greater strength, sharper reactions or better endurance. Whatever the result, the point is to have something concrete to work towards and a clear way to measure how far you've come.

UA NEXT COMBINE is supported by JAM PJ as the official venue partner, Gatorade as the official hydration partner and Hyperice as the official recovery partner.

Make Your Commitment Count

In a fitness culture that can sometimes feel obsessed with numbers, rankings and keeping up with everyone else, UA NEXT COMBINE offers a timely reminder that progress starts with knowing yourself. The challenge is not simply about pushing harder for the sake of it, but about understanding your capabilities, training with purpose and returning stronger than before.
