Meet Hyundai’s New STARGAZER, The ‘WEhicle’ That Wants To Make Family Drives A Little Less Chaotic

Family cars have a reputation for being practical, sensible and, admittedly, not always the most exciting things in the car park. Hyundai is clearly hoping to change that with the new STARGAZER, which has officially arrived in Malaysia with a starting price of RM99,800.

Launched by Hyundai Motor Malaysia on 22 September 2026, the new STARGAZER comes in three variants: Style, Prime and X, giving Malaysian families a choice between seven-seat practicality and a more premium six-seat setup.

But Hyundai isn't simply selling this as another MPV. It has given the STARGAZER a rather fitting nickname: ‘The WEhicle’.

The idea is pretty straightforward. Family life is rarely about one person. There are school runs, grocery trips, weekend plans, parents to pick up, friends squeezing into the back and the inevitable “can you fetch me?” message. The STARGAZER has been designed around all of it.

As Ms. Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Malaysia, puts it: “The New STARGAZER is not just another MPV entering the market. We call it the ‘WEhicle’.”

And honestly, the name does make sense.

A Car Designed For The Whole Gang

The STARGAZER's approach to family practicality goes beyond simply adding more seats.

Inside, Hyundai has focused on making the cabin work harder for everyday life, with flexible seating, storage and convenience features designed around the realities of carrying an entire household.

There is a cargo floor box with lid, a seat-back table and multiple USB ports, because apparently every family now travels with enough devices to qualify as a small electronics department.

The STARGAZER Style and Prime come with a seven-seat 2+3+2 configuration, while the STARGAZER X takes a different route with a 2+2+2 captain-chair layout. The X also gets a floating centre console with a detachable tray, adding another flexible element to the cabin.

The result is an MPV that is less about cramming everyone in and more about giving everyone their own space.

And Yes, It Looks Pretty Good Too

Hyundai has also decided that practicality doesn't have to mean visually predictable.

The new STARGAZER takes a more futuristic and expressive approach to MPV design, moving away from the conventional family-car aesthetic.

The STARGAZER X pushes that personality even further with SUV-inspired details, including sporty front and rear bumpers, a sporty rear spoiler, black Hyundai emblems and black gloss alloy wheels.

Then there are those captain chairs. With six seats instead of seven, the X is clearly going for a slightly more premium interpretation of the family MPV.

In other words, this isn't quite the “mum's taxi” stereotype we're used to.

Smart Features Without Making Things Complicated

The STARGAZER also brings Hyundai's SmartSense suite of advanced driver assistance technologies into the mix.

Depending on the variant, the car offers ADAS 2.0 features including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Following Assist.

For families spending time navigating busy Malaysian roads as well as longer highway journeys, these systems are designed to support driver awareness and confidence.

The STARGAZER Prime also comes with six airbags.

Inside the cabin, roof-mounted rear air-conditioning vents help keep passengers comfortable, while selected variants get dual 10.25-inch displays, wireless charging and an Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold.

Because if we're going to spend hours in traffic, we might as well be comfortable.

Pick Your STARGAZER

The Malaysian line-up is split into three variants, each with a slightly different take on the family-car formula.

STARGAZER Style | RM99,800

The entry point to the range comes with seven seats in a 2+3+2 configuration, LED headlamps with H-signature daytime running lights, an 8-inch multimedia player, a 4.2-inch TFT LCD Meter Colour Cluster and 16-inch alloy wheels.

STARGAZER Prime | RM109,800

The Prime adds dual 10.25-inch displays, Hyundai SmartSense advanced driver assistance technologies with ADAS 2.0 and six airbags.

STARGAZER X | RM121,800

At the top of the line-up, the X gets the six-seat 2+2+2 captain-chair configuration, full leatherette seats, Shift-By-Wire transmission control and its more pronounced SUV-inspired styling.

The three variants give buyers a fairly clear choice: seven seats for maximum flexibility, a more tech-focused Prime, or the six-seat X for those who prefer a little more breathing room.

Hyundai Is Thinking Beyond The First Drive

Hyundai is also putting some attention on ownership after the showroom excitement wears off.

During the launch period, customers can purchase an Early Bird Value Package at RM4,600, inclusive of the RM88 booking fee. The package comes with eight times or four years of free after-sales service, as well as a RM1,000 All-Star Reward programme. Existing Hyundai owners purchasing a new STARGAZER will receive an additional RM1,000 rebate.

New owners will also receive an 8-year / 160,000km myHyundaiCare warranty programme.

Then comes an interesting addition: Hyundai's STARGAZER Resale Value Protection (RVP) Programme. The programme is designed to provide a predetermined resale value when eligible owners upgrade to a new Hyundai vehicle, subject to its terms and conditions. Hyundai Malaysia currently states protection values of 70% in the third year, 60% in the fourth year and 50% in the fifth year, with corresponding mileage limits of up to 60,000km, 80,000km and 100,000km respectively.

For a car intended to become part of the family routine, thinking about what happens several years down the road is certainly part of the conversation.

Your Weekend Plans, Upgraded

The new STARGAZER officially enters the Malaysian market at RM99,800, with the Prime at RM109,800 and the X at RM121,800.

Hyundai Motor Malaysia will invite customers and their families to dealerships nationwide on 26 and 27 September to experience the new STARGAZER, including test drives and weekend activities.

And perhaps that's the whole point of the ‘WEhicle’ idea. It isn't trying to make the family car about one particular person. It is about the people inside it, the things they have to do, the places they need to be and all those little moments that happen somewhere between home and the destination.

Because sometimes, getting everyone there is the adventure.
