For City Dwellers With No Time: Meet Urban Roots and Its Self-Watering Designs
If your love for plants is real but your schedule says otherwise, Urban Roots is about to become your new favourite thing.
Launching in Kuala Lumpur, Urban Roots is a fresh Malaysian lifestyle brand that lives where artisanal design meets clever greenery. Built for urbanites who want nature in their homes without the stress of constant upkeep, the brand is rewriting what it means to be a plant parent in the city.
At the heart of Urban Roots are its monthly small-batch drops. Each set pairs hardy, low-maintenance plants with handmade ceramic vessels crafted by local Malaysian artisans. These are not just planters. They are functional design pieces engineered with a self-watering system that only needs a top-up once a month. Yes, once.
A Reintroduction Worth Stepping Out For
Urban Roots is marking its official reintroduction with a three-day showcase at The Dia Space in the heart of KL, designed to immerse guests in the brand’s world of slow craft and smart living.
The experience kicks off with a premiere event on Friday, 30 January, from 11 AM to 5 PM, followed by a public showcase on Saturday and Sunday, 31 January to 1 February, from 10 AM to 6 PM. The venue is The Dia Space, Level 1, 4 Medan Pasar, City Centre, 50050 KL.
Meet ToTo and the Lunar New Year Huat Drop
The highlight of the showcase is the debut of ToTo, a new silhouette that takes convenience to another level. Featuring a generous 10-week self-watering reservoir, the longest in the Urban Roots collection, ToTo is designed for people who travel often or simply do not want to think about plant care during hectic work seasons.
Just in time for Lunar New Year, Urban Roots is also unveiling the Huat Drop, an ultra-limited CNY Red Edition. Only 80 units have been produced, making this release one of the brand’s most exclusive yet. Guests attending the showcase will get priority access to reserve a set before it is gone.
A One-Day-Only Premiere Experience
Those who attended the Friday premiere were treated with more than just a product launch. The immersive experience includes Feng Shui Master Sessions that offered personalised readings to help guests align their spaces for the Year of the Horse, along with VIP Priority Access to secure first-dibs on every major Urban Roots drop scheduled for 2026.
“Urban Roots was created to bring effortless greenery into city homes,” says Ray Kam, Founder of Urban Roots. “Think of these as living art pieces, designed to feel as intentional as any piece of furniture in your home.”
Small Batches, Big Demand
Urban Roots produces its collections in limited quantities to preserve artisan quality. While selected sets may be restocked, the brand’s limited editions are expected to sell fast, especially the Lunar New Year release.
If your home could use a little more green without adding another thing to your to-do list, this might be the most low-effort upgrade you make all year.
Urban Roots. Rooted in nature. Designed for the urban pace.
