Brushing Up on Oral Care: Meet Acaya, the Malaysian Brand Turning Toothpaste Into a Luxury Experience
Oral care is getting a serious glow-up—and three pharmacist-founders are making sure of it.
Meet Acaya, a Malaysian-born brand that’s taking toothpaste out of the clinical aisle and putting it firmly on your top shelf. Started by longtime best friends and pharmacy grads Sook Li, Silvia, and Kit, Acaya isn’t just about keeping cavities at bay—it’s about making the mundane magical.
These three aren’t your average founders. With a shared love for health, science, and objects that both smell and look great, they’ve taken their backgrounds in pharmacy and channelled that knowledge into a product that’s part self-care ritual, part science experiment. After several years apart—Silvia and Kit stayed in Australia, Sook Li moved to Singapore—the trio eventually found themselves back in Malaysia, reunited by love and ready to dive into something new.
Their research uncovered that many mainstream toothpastes are packed with potentially harmful chemicals, while 100% natural options often strip away too much—making them less effective in protecting teeth. The result: a formulation philosophy that blends natural ingredients where possible and clinical-grade science where necessary.
With years of research and development, Acaya launched. Their hero ingredient? Nano-hydroxyapatite—a fluoride alternative gaining traction among those wary of conventional dental ingredients but still serious about oral health.
Acaya’s debut flavours are anything but basic. First Date layers verbena, green apple, and pineapple, while Summer Tales brings together citrus, cassis berry, apricot, and peach. Both start with a refreshing minty foundation—but with unexpected notes that transform your bathroom routine into something closer to a sensorial spa treatment. The packaging? Elegant, refined, and made to be shown off. Even their toothbrush packaging comes in a triangular box—a subtle tribute to the trio behind it all.
Of course, crafting a product that’s equal parts functional and indulgent doesn’t come cheap. A tube of Acaya toothpaste retails at RM40.00.
In an industry saturated by legacy players, the road ahead won’t be without its challenges. But if Acaya has proven anything so far, it’s that there’s real power in rethinking the everyday—and doing it beautifully.
