Yuleza Celebrates 30 Years of Artistic Legacy with an Intimate Atelier Affair

Malaysian fashion house Yuleza marks three decades of artistry, heritage, and storytelling with an intimate celebration at its very own Yuleza Atelier. The exclusive event offered guests a rare peek into the creative universe of its founder, You Sheng, and the family legacy that has shaped one of Malaysia’s most enduring fashion names.

Born in Terengganu and rooted in cultural heritage, Yuleza has always been more than fashion—it’s wearable art. The brand is known for its elegant modern silhouettes paired with intricate craftsmanship, from batik-inspired motifs to hand-finished embellishments that pay homage to Malaysian roots.

But Yuleza’s story didn’t start in the atelier. It began decades ago in a modest batik shop run by the siblings’ late mother. She was not just a businesswoman but an artist in her own right, carving her own batik blocks—an art that You Sheng continues to preserve in his designs. Though that original store no longer exists, its spirit lives on through every stitch and motif that carries the values of craftsmanship, time, and soul she instilled in them.

Among her children, she chose to name the brand after You Sheng and Lina—a decision that surprised them both back then. Today, that name represents a full-circle moment. Last year, Lina officially joined the brand, turning Yuleza’s 30th anniversary into a powerful symbol of unity, family, and the continuation of their mother’s dream.

In conjunction with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Yuleza unveiled a 30-piece collection that encapsulates 30 years of its journey. Each piece tells a story—from batik motifs that honour their roots to hidden easter eggs like a cheongsam embroidered with nine goldfish, a loving nod to family. The collection marks a shift from Yuleza’s previously minimalist style to one that embraces bold colours, sweeping capes, and elaborate embroidery. It’s a visual evolution of You Sheng’s creativity, turning garments into tactile stories of identity and craft.

Yuleza’s beginnings were humble, rooted in bridal wear after family requests for wedding gowns sparked You Sheng’s venture into fashion. His defining moment came during the New Generation Fashion Award in 2014 when a judge asked him, “How would you sell your clothes?” That single question changed everything. It made him realise that fashion was not just about sketches and fabrics but about understanding business, identity, and purpose.

“I’ve grown from a dreamer to someone more realistic,” reflects You Sheng. “But what remains the same is that every detail I put into my work has meaning. Every motif has intention. That’s the spirit my mum passed on to me, and I carry it with me in everything I create.”

The upcoming PR event at Yuleza Atelier is more than a milestone celebration—it’s a love letter to the brand’s ethos of spreading love and preserving heritage through art. Guests will step into a space where stories are told through textures, patterns, and fabrics that weave together Malaysia’s artistic soul.

Looking ahead, Yuleza’s next chapter will continue to champion storytelling through design. The brand’s upcoming Chinese New Year collection will explore the theme of togetherness and is set to be showcased at a special MODA pop-up, reinforcing Yuleza’s status as a torchbearer for Malaysian craftsmanship on the global stage.
