Scooping Up Nostalgia: Inside Scoop’s Merdeka Tribute Goes Sweet and Lokal
Merdeka season calls for more than fireworks and parades — it’s about the little things that taste like home. This year, Inside Scoop is serving that spirit straight from the tub with the return of Lokal Legends, its crowd-pleasing collab series that fuses Malaysia’s most iconic snacks with handcrafted ice cream. To mark the nation’s 68th birthday, six homegrown giants — Gardenia, GSC, Julie’s, Beryl’s, ZUS Coffee, and Farm Fresh — have stepped into the churn, turning everyday favourites into flavours that are as bold as they are familiar. It’s comfort food, just colder and creamier.
From Bangsar beginnings to a national obsession
Since opening its first shop in Bangsar back in 2013, Inside Scoop has been in the business of bottling up Malaysian memories in frozen form. With more than 200 inventive flavours to date, the brand has pulled from kopitiam staples, street snacks, and even childhood tuck-shop treasures to create ice creams that feel uniquely Malaysian. Lokal Legends is a continuation of that story — one that takes flavours we’ve grown up with and spins them into creamy, handcrafted tributes.
The Six Flavours of 2025
This year’s line-up takes “Malaysia on a scoop” literally. Six brands that have shaped the nation’s food culture now lend their icons to Inside Scoop’s churn:
Gardenia’s Twiggies Choc-A-Lot

More than ice cream
“This year’s Lokal Legends is a love letter to Malaysia,” says Edmund Tan, Co-Founder of Inside Scoop. “We’re proud to collaborate with brands that Malaysians have grown up with – from movie-night favourites to childhood snacks – and turn them into something uniquely ours. Every scoop is handcrafted here in Malaysia, a celebration of the creativity and community that define us.”
It’s not just about the flavours — the details matter too. Each scoop is served in a sleeve designed in collaboration with the partner brands, complete with Lokal Legends branding. For the collectors (or the indecisive), there’s also a Lokal Legends Party Pack priced at RM68, bundling all six flavours into one box of patriotic indulgence.
Where to get it
Inside Scoop has grown from a Bangsar experiment into a nationwide institution, with more than 60 outlets across Malaysia. The Lokal Legends 2025 collection will be available from 18 August to 21 September 2025, just in time to keep the Merdeka spirit going.
