Rolling Into the Future: Sushi King Turns 30
It’s not every day your favourite conveyor belt sushi spot hits the big 3-0. But Sushi King? They’re not just hitting a milestone—they’re flipping the script on what it means to be a Japanese restaurant in Malaysia. Celebrating three flavour-packed decades since its debut in 1995, the OG of Halal Japanese dining is coming in hot with a refreshed look, a bigger menu, and a serious reminder that it’s still the king of the kaiten belt.
Let’s rewind. Back when sushi in Malaysia was either luxury or mystery, Sushi King slid in with a mission: to make Japanese cuisine for everyone. Fast-forward to 2025, and it’s grown into a national staple—over 100 outlets strong and fully Halal-certified since 2016. That’s not just impressive; it’s revolutionary.
“For 30 years, Sushi King has been a part of Malaysia’s colourful dining culture. This anniversary marks not just three decades of serving our beloved customers, but the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Sushi King,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr.) Fumihiko Konishi, Founder of Sushi King Sdn Bhd. “Whether it’s a timeless favourite or a hidden gem waiting to be discovered, we want every plate on our Kaiten belt to deliver something memorable with a mix of variety and authenticity.”
This week, the celebration kicked off in Putrajaya with a reveal of what’s next. Picture this: a 100-metre kaiten belt loaded with over 60 varieties of sushi, plus a fresh new menu stacked with Yakimono and Agemono goodness. Think 200 menu items deep—bentos, donburi, ramen, udon—you name it. It’s an all-you-can-vibe Japanese spread that caters to every kind of craving.
And if you thought things couldn’t get any cooler, enter Head Chef Takeshi Torita. Originally from Tokyo and now 12 years into his Sushi King journey, Chef Takeshi stepped up with a live salmon slicing demo that was nothing short of hypnotic. His precision? Unmatched. His energy? Electric.
To spice things up (literally), Sushi King is also spotlighting wasabi as more than just a condiment—it’s the star of a limited-time menu rollout that’s already turning heads. This bold move signals the brand’s constant evolution while still staying true to its roots.
Speaking of evolution, 2025 marks the start of a whole new aesthetic. Sushi King is undergoing a stylish transformation, with revamped stores rolling out a sleeker, more refined design that reflects how far the brand has come. There are even plans to expand to 10 new locations by the second half of the year.
With its legacy sealed and future wide open, Sushi King is proving it’s more than a place to eat—it’s a cultural mainstay. It’s still about the joy of sharing, plate after plate, bite after bite.
Now that’s how you turn 30.
